Dos and Don’ts for Active Wear
When exercising in public and looking for comfortable fitness wear, there are some dos and don’ts to keep in mind.
Do Buy Performance Fabric: Not all performance fabrics are going to be created equal so make sure you are getting what you pay for.
Don’t Choose Cotton: It can be really tempting to use the free cotton T-shirts you get from events for your gym sessions but this isn’t always the best strategy. It can cause irritation and you get cold as soon as you are done with your workout.
Do Test Clothing: Just because a pair of shorts looks right on the rack or fits well in the dressing room, it doesn’t mean that it’s going to be the best for a public gym. Before you take new active wear out in the gym, do some test exercises in your own home to make sure you aren’t having clothes that are riding up or falling down.
Do Consider the Workout: You need different active wear for different workouts. For yoga, choose yoga pants but for running, you may want shorts for more comfort.
Don’t Re-Wear Clothing: It can be tempting to want to re-use your comfortable fitness wear but it likely has sweat soaked through and it can cause irritation to the skin.
Do Choose Socks and Shoes Carefully: It’s important that your shoes fit and give you the support you need for your workouts. Ill-fitting socks can cause blisters.
Don’t Leave Your Jewelry On: You can risk damage to your jewelry while you are working out so jewelry shouldn’t be a part of your comfortable fitness wear and apparel for the gym.
Don’t Forget to Change Clothes: For your workouts, you should actually have workout gear. Since everyday clothes are not usually stretchy you can rip everyday outfits when you wear them while exercising. It’s also possible to injure yourself if you don’t have supportive clothing or the right footwear.
