Founded in Charleston, South Carolina USA by Founder and CEO Chris Willey, Yoloha's headquarters includes their warehouse and a beautiful yoga studio. Chris' passion for sustainable practice was sparked at a young age as part of an earth-conscious, outdoorsy family.
He recalls helping his grandmother, a vice president of the Sierra Club, to sell her natural plant-based salves at the local farmer’s market. Many holidays were spent exploring marshes and shucking oysters with his uncles who worked for the Chesapeake Bay Foundation.
"My wonderful family taught me the importance of caring for the environment and for oneself to preserve all that we love."
Chris' first passion was building surfboards and paddle boards. Learning how toxic and environmentally unfriendly traditional surfboard manufacturing can be, he set out to use non-traditional materials that were eco-friendly, durable and high performance. His pursuit for a better, greener material ended with his discovery of cork. Cork outlasted and outperformed any other natural material and, best of all, it provided a non-slip surface even when wet, eliminating the need for oil-based wax or synthetic EVA foams for traction.
Working out of his garage with the help of his parents, they set out to create the first prototype cork yoga mats, hand-laminating the cork and recycled rubber layers together and working well into the night. The minute the new cork mats were introduced to the local studio, Chris knew they were onto something special. Teachers would grab the cork mats before any students could get their hands on them. As they say, the rest is history!
Yoloha now makes a wide range of cork products, including yoga blocks, wheels, bags, bottles and many others to keep your practice as eco-friendly and cork based as possible. As an added bonus, Yoloha is able to customise each one of their products to suit your personal requests or corporate requirements.
